Privacy Policy: Instant Translator
This Privacy Policy explains what data Instant Translator by Sovrest ("the Extension") processes, how it is processed, and your rights as a user.
By installing or using the Extension, you agree to this Policy.
1WHO WE ARE
Data Controller: Sovrest Contact: info@sovrest.com Telegram: https://t.me/NeuralBot_Support
2WHAT THE EXTENSION DOES
The Extension translates text you select on a web page, text you type into its popup, and, for Pro users, the visible text of a whole page on request.
There are two translation engines, and which one is used decides whether your text leaves your computer:
- (a) ON-DEVICE: Chrome's built-in Translator API (Chrome 138 and newer). The text is translated inside your browser by a model Chrome downloads and stores locally. No network request is made and your text never leaves your computer.
- (b) CLOUD (Pro only): the text is sent over HTTPS to https://sovrest.com/api/translate for translation by a large language model.
Which engine runs, exactly:
- Free users: on-device only. Your text is never sent anywhere. If your Chrome cannot provide the on-device translator, the Extension tells you so rather than falling back to the cloud.
- Pro users, default settings: on-device first. The cloud is used only as a fallback, when the on-device translator fails or cannot handle the language pair.
- Pro users who switch on "Prefer cloud translation" in settings: the cloud is used first, with the on-device engine as the fallback.
- Whole-page translation is a Pro feature and follows the same rules.
3DATA WE PROCESS
- 3.1. Locally (on your device):
- The text you select or type. Under on-device translation this is all that ever happens to it.
- Your translation history: up to 100 recent entries, stored in chrome.storage.local. It never leaves your device and you can clear it from the popup.
- Your settings (language pair, floating button, theme, "Prefer cloud translation"): stored in chrome.storage.local.
- Your Pro licence data, stored in chrome.storage.local under these keys: sovrest:key (licence key), sovrest:jwt (signed licence token), sovrest:refresh (refresh token), sovrest:device_id (a random UUID generated at install, not derived from your hardware), sovrest:last_refresh (timestamp) and sovrest:license_meta (cached licence details: plan, edition, licence end date, activation count, last check time).
This data lets the Extension verify your Pro licence offline using a public-key signature (RS256 / RSA-2048) and keep working for up to 14 days without a network connection.
- 3.2. Sent over the network:
- (a) To https://sovrest.com/api/licenses, when you activate, refresh or deactivate a Pro licence: your licence key, your device ID, the refresh token, a header identifying which Sovrest extension is asking (X-App-Id), and a short label naming this browser and operating system (for example "Chrome · Windows") so you can tell your devices apart when freeing an activation slot. The label is built from the browser and platform only, it is not a device fingerprint.
- (b) To https://sovrest.com/api/translate, ONLY on the cloud path described in section 2, and only for Pro users: the text to translate, the source and target language codes, your licence token and the X-App-Id header.
- (c) To https://sovrest.com/api/translate/quota, for Pro users: your licence token and the X-App-Id header, to show how much of your cloud translation allowance is left. No text is sent with this request.
Nothing else is sent. The Extension does not transmit the pages you visit, their addresses, or your history.
If you never activate a Pro licence, the Extension makes no network requests at all.
- 3.3. Who processes cloud translations: Text sent to https://sovrest.com/api/translate is forwarded by Sovrest to Google's Gemini model through the OpenRouter API gateway, solely in order to produce the translation. Sovrest does not store the text. OpenRouter and Google process it under their own privacy terms.
- 3.4. We do NOT use cookies, analytics, ad networks, or tracking pixels. The Extension contains no third-party SDKs.
4PERMISSIONS WE REQUEST AND WHY
- storage: to save your settings, history and licence locally.
- contextMenus: to add the "Translate selection" item to the right-click menu.
- activeTab and access to sites (<all_urls>): the Extension places a small content script on pages so that selecting text can show the translate button, and so that whole-page translation can read and replace the visible text when you ask for it. The script acts on what you select or on the button you press; outside of those actions it does not read or transmit page contents.
- https://sovrest.com/*: Pro licence activation and Pro cloud translation.
5THIRD PARTIES
- Sovrest License System (https://sovrest.com): licence activation and verification, and the proxy for Pro cloud translation. See https://sovrest.com/privacy for Sovrest's general policy.
- Google (Gemini), reached through the OpenRouter API gateway: performs Pro cloud translations. Reached only via Sovrest; the Extension never contacts them directly.
- Google Chrome's built-in translator: runs on your own device, operated by your browser, not by us.
- No advertising networks. No analytics platforms.
6DATA RETENTION
- Your settings, history and licence data remain in your browser until you uninstall the Extension, clear browser data, or clear the history from the popup.
- Sovrest's licence system keeps a record of your licence activations (licence key, device ID and activation timestamps) for as long as the licence exists: this is what enforces the device limit.
- Cloud translation text is not stored by Sovrest. It is held only for as long as the request takes.
7YOUR RIGHTS
You can at any time:
- Clear your translation history from inside the popup.
- Delete the Extension: this removes all locally stored settings, history and licence data.
- Deactivate your Pro licence: frees up a device slot.
- Avoid cloud translation entirely: leave "Prefer cloud translation" off and do not use whole-page translation; on-device translation makes no network request at all.
- Request deletion of your licence activation records: write to info@sovrest.com.
8CHILDREN
The Extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
9CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Policy. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be announced inside the Extension and on https://sovrest.com.
